IARC Fellowship for cancer research

  • Type: Fellowships
  • Focus: Epidemiology, etiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, mechanisms of carcinogenesis, cancer prevention
  • Duration: 3 months to 2 years

The main objectives of the IARC Fellowship Programme are to provide training opportunities at IARC for scientists who wish to pursue a career in cancer research, ranging from biostatistics and epidemiology to laboratory sciences, and to create and facilitate collaborative research links between IARC and cancer researchers worldwide.

  • Postdoctoral fellowships
    • Early career scientists wishing to complete their training cancer research. Disciplines covered are: epidemiology (all disciplines included), biostatistics, bioinformatics, and areas related to mechanisms of carcinogenesis including molecular and cell biology, molecular genetics, epigenetics, and molecular pathology. Interdisciplinary projects are encouraged. IARC is Particularly keen to promote the development of expertise in cancer research in low- and middle-income countries by training postdoctoral researchers from these countries who can return to apply their new skills and expertise.
    • Duration: 2 years
    • Amount: Competitive annual stipend with reimbursement of travel cost and health insurance.
    • Application Deadline: annually 30 November
  • Senior Visiting Scientist Award
    • Collaborative project at IARC that is focused on understanding cancer etiology (including infections, nutrition, lifestyle, environment, radiation, and genetics), developing prevention strategies (primary prevention, screening, and implementation research), and elucidating underlying mechanisms of carcinogenesis through studies of molecular and cell biology, molecular genetics, epigenetics, and molecular pathology.
    • Duration:6-12 months
    • Amount: €48,000/year
    • Application Deadline: annually 30 November
  • Short-term fellowships
    • Stay at IARC to transfer basic skills in cancer research to promising professionals from low- and middle-income countries.
