save-the-date-symposiumThe Malawi Cancer Program, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, UNC Project Malawi, the UNC Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases and UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, will be hosting the 5th Annual Malawi Cancer Symposium (MCS 2023). This year’s symposium will be held September 6-7, offering a valuable platform for local and international cancer research, care, and advocacy stakeholders to share research progress to creatively address the impact of cancer in Malawi.

Aligned with the global theme for World Cancer, the 5th Annual MCS 2023 aims to “Close the Care Gap,” with a specific focus on “uniting our voices and taking action.” By rallying the collective efforts of experts and professionals in the field, the symposium endeavors to reduce the burden of cancer in Malawi and improve the quality of care provided to patients.

During the two-day event, participants will have the opportunity to exchange information, discuss strategic priorities, and identify potential areas for collaboration. The symposium will cover a wide range of topics, including risk factors, burden assessment, surveillance, screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care, survivorship and palliative care, as well as outcomes and training in cancer, whether HIV-associated or non-HIV-associated.

The call for abstracts has already been disseminated for interested individuals and organizations to submit their cancer-related work to showcase their research, initiatives, and advancements. This provides a unique chance to present findings, share knowledge, and inspire others in the field.

Mark your calendars for September 6-7, and ensure you don’t miss out on this exceptional opportunity to join the collective effort to “Close the Care Gap” at the 5th Annual Malawi Cancer Symposium. Together, let us unite our voices, take action, and pave the way for a brighter future in cancer care.
