Research and Health Policy

We conduct prevention and treatment trials to evaluate behavioral and biomedical interventions. We also conduct implementation science trials to translate effective interventions into policy. And we use observational studies to inform trial development and support public health practice.

Capacity Building

We work with our Vietnamese partners to build capacity in universities, clinical settings, and governmental agencies. We provide research training and augment the research infrastructure. We offer UNC students unique research and programmatic opportunities to enrich their education.

History

UNC Vietnam has been conducting NIH-funded research in Vietnam since 2001, growing from a team of 5 people conducting one randomized controlled trial, to a current core team of over 35 people conducting multiple complex research studies. We became established as a flagship site of the UNC Institute of Global Health and Infectious Diseases in 2013, and in 2020, our site became one of four clinical research sites (CRS) of the UNC HIV Global HIV Prevention and Treatment Clinical Trials Unit (UNC CTU).
