Country Director

As the Country Director of UNC Project Malawi, he manages sponsored research administration functions and provides overall leadership for the project.  He serves as the liaison to external agencies by maintaining contact with government and private funding sources.  He oversees all facets of daily operations of the project, ensuring compliance with sponsors, the Ministry of Health, and government laws, policies, and regulations. He is also the part of the leadership of the Lilongwe Medical Relief Fund Trust (LMRFT); a service and implementation research arm of UNC Project. This arm of UNC Project is responsible for service provision at Kamuzu Central Hospital and also runs an Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Project at Dzama which include building school blocks, school feeding program and clean water.

Innocent Mofolo has over 20 years’ experience managing large implementation projects in Malawi including 11 years in implementing and expanding the largest PMTCT program in the country. Before that he was Project Manager for a CDC funded UNC Malaria Project – Strengthening Malaria Control in Malawi based at the Malawi college of Medicine for 4 years. The research work involved management of severe malaria in children and management of Malaria in pregnancy. As a Chief of Party of the $8.2 million USAID funded Safeguard the Family Project, he oversaw the rapid scale up of PMTCT services that were integrated with WaSH and nutrition services in the central region of Malawi.
