D43 Vietnam Implementation Science Advancement (VISA) Training Program

Program period: 2021-2026
Sponsor: NIH (D43TW011548)

The D43 VISA Training Program aims to build implementation science (IS) research capacity and applied implementation skills among faculty researchers and policymakers in Vietnam to ensure effective scale-up of HIV-related evidence-based interventions (EBIs) in Vietnam.

The D43 VISA program trains 4 groups of fellows:

  1. VISA Senior Fellows – Vietnamese senior faculty who received 2-month intensive implementation science training in-person at UNC at Chapel Hill.
  2. VISA PhD Fellows – Vietnamese students who will complete a PhD focused on implementation science at UNC, in the Departments of Health Behavior and/or Epidemiology.
  3. VISA Faculty Fellows – Vietnamese faculty researchers selected from 4 health science universities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, and Hue
  4. VISA Policy Fellows – Vietnamese national and provincial level leaders in public health and health policy from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, and Hue

A key element of the VISA program is that the VISA Faculty and VISA Policy Fellows receive joint IS training and conduct IS pilot studies as faculty-policy teams, offering an opportunity to share their expertise and perspectives with each other, and increase the potential for synergistic efforts to stimulate IS in Vietnam.
