Title: Understanding Quality of Life During and Loss to Follow-up From Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis Treatment in Pune, India

Project Objectives:

Aims 1: Examine the timing and risk factors of multi-drug resistant (MDR) and extensively drug resistant (XDR) tuberculosis (TB) patient loss to follow-up in Western Maharashtra, India by integrating Revised National TB Control Program (RNTCP) patient, laboratory and programmatic registry data

Aims 2: Actively ascertain true outcomes and self-reported barriers to treatment retention of MDR and XDR-TB patients lost to follow-up (≥2 consecutive months) during public sector treatment in Pune, India through prospective phone follow-up and home visits

Aims 3: Compare longitudinal quality of life in Pune, India for MDR and XDR-TB patients during the first 6 months of public sector treatment to healthy controls testing negative for TB

Aims 4: Conduct a policy assessment of the implementation of RNTCP treatment support systems for patients and their families by performing in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including: patients, program officials, medical officers and community health workers in Pune, India
