Kevin Alby, PhD
Assistant Professor
Associate Director, Clinical Microbiology Laboratory
About
Dr. Alby’s research has two main foci. The first is the development, evaluation, and implementation of new tests and technologies in the clinical microbiology laboratory. In particular, he is interested in how innovation in the clinical lab translates to improved patient or institutional outcomes. His other area of interest is the identification and characterization of multi-drug resistant organisms, including their role in health and disease. Using a combination of traditional phenotypic tools and modern molecular techniques, he queries the molecular epidemiology of these organisms. In partnership with his collaborators, he further analyzed these organisms and their clinical epidemiology, including risk factors associated with his transmission, to develop a fuller understanding of these important pathogens.
