Title: A formative study to increase partner HIV testing during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Project Objectives: Increased rates of partner HIV testing are needed to improve HIV prevention among pregnant and breastfeeding women, including prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT). Through identification of HIV status of both the pregnant woman and her partner, public health interventions can be customized to better target specific at-risk groups to reduce HIV transmission.
Aim 1: To study community and health care worker perceptions of partner HIV testing during pregnancy and breastfeeding, including novel strategies to increase coverage and access of services
Aim 2: To evaluate a small pilot study of choice-based partner HIV testing that may include partner referral letters, community-based testing, or home-based self-testing
