Title: Effects of a Liquefied Petroleum Gas Stove and Fuel Distribution Intervention on Adult Cardiopulmonary Health Outcomes in Puno, Peru

Project Objectives:

Aim 1: Evaluate NO2 kitchen concentrations and personal exposure in households with biomass cookstoves in a subsample of 100 houses and 20 women, respectively. We hypothesize that kitchen concentrations and personal exposures to NO2 will exceed WHO guidelines for indoor NO2.

Aim 2: Evaluate the longitudinal impact of an LPG stove intervention on NO2 kitchen concentrations and personal exposure, from baseline through three months post-intervention. We hypothesize that transitioning from biomass to LPG-fueled stoves will decrease indoor concentrations and personal exposure to NO2.

Aim 3: Examine the exposure-response relationship between NO2 concentrations and lung function among women with biomass or LPG stoves, through three months of participant follow-up. We hypothesize a negative association between NO2 concentrations and lung function.
