Title: The effects of social network on food security and child under nutrition in Peruvian Infants.

Project Objectives:

Aim 1: To generate a model of a social network within the neighboring communities of Santa Clara de Nanay, Santo Tomas, La Union, and 12 de Diciembre.

Hypothesis 1: Families will report sources of social and financial support from connections both within and external to the community. Poorer families will rely more on up-river connections and short-term migration up-river; while wealthier families will rely more on remittances from connections in Lima.

Aim 2: To relate characteristics of a household’s social network to reported family food insecurity and nutritional status in children under five.

Hypothesis 2: Families with stronger social networks will report less food insecurity and will have less undernutrition in children under five than families with weaker social networks.
