Title: “Evaluation and comparison of high-risk HPV type distribution in cervical lesions of HIV positive and HIV negative women in Malawi”

Program Objectives:

Aim 1: Describe type-specific HPV prevalence among a spectrum of histologically-confirmed cervical samples (normal, cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN) 1, CIN2, CIN3, and invasive cervical cancer) in HIV-positive and HIV-negative women in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Aim 2: Compare the overall and type-specific prevalence of HPV between HIV-positive and HIV-negative women, stratified by histological disease stage.

Aim 3: Compare the prevalence of type-specific HPV infection and associated cervical disease, stratified by CD4 count (CD4>500, 350-500, and <350 cells/cubic millimeter) in HIV-positive women.
