Title: Implementation of a patient-centered education tool for hypertension among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in rural Uganda: An acceptability and effectiveness study
Program Objectives: Our goal is to examine the acceptability and effectiveness of hypertension specific health education delivered by community health workers (CHWs) among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). We hypothesize that when participants receive hypertension-specific education and behavior intervention they will have improved blood pressure control, hypertension-related knowledge and reduced dietary salt intake and that this intervention is effective when delivered by community health workers.
Aim 1: Implementation aim: Assess acceptability of implementing hypertension (HTN) specific health education by CHWs among PLWHA in Nakaseke.
Aim 2: Clinical aim: Assess effectiveness of HTN specific health education delivered by CHWs among PLWHA in Nakaseke by comparing changes in blood pressure before and after the intervention.
Aim 3: Health economic aim: Conduct a cost-analysis of HTN health education delivered by CHWs among PLWHA in Nakaseke in terms of health related costs and health benefits.
