Title: “Evaluating Lung Ultrasound for Diagnosing COVID-19 and Pulmonary Tuberculosis in an HIV Population in Peru”

Program Objectives:

Aim 1. Describe the effect of past or current TB on COVID-19 susceptibility and outcomes in a cohort of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Peru.
We hypothesize that current or past TB infection will be associated with severe outcome and adverse secondary outcomes (longer hospital and ICU stays, more days on ventilators, need for dialysis, coagulopathy).
Aim 2. Characterize LUS findings in HIV positive adult patients with confirmed COVID-19 pneumonia or pulmonary tuberculosis, and compare these LUS findings with CXR findings.
We hypothesize that LUS findings of subpleural opacities, areas of white lung and B-lines will be associated with COVID-19 pneumonia and findings of consolidation, subpleural nodules, focal thickening of the pleura and pleural effusion will be associated with TB and these lesions will correlate with location and lesion type on CXR.
