Sylvia Becker-Dreps, MD, MPH is a Professor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Epidemiology. Her research focuses on child health, with a focus on childhood diarrhea, vaccines, nutrition, and neurodevelopment. Her work has included collaborations in Nicaragua and Guatemala, including with the Fundación para la Salud Integral de los Guatemaltecos. Dr. Becker-Dreps also co-directed the Nicaraguan Emerging and Endemic Diseases (NEED) Fogarty D43 Training Program, which strengthens research capacity in Central America. Within the UNC School of Medicine, Dr. Becker-Dreps serves as Director of the Office of Global Health Education, where she supports UNC medical students, residents, and fellows pursuing global health training.
