PAUSE Seminar: Updates On Management of S. Aureus Bacteremia

Thomas Holland, MD, is a Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, at Duke University Medical Center. He concurrently completed a Fogarty International Clinical Research Fellowship in Eldoret, Kenya where he investigated the prevalence of rheumatic heart disease. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University in Evolutionary Biology and his MD from Wake Forest University before completing Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship training at Duke.

Since joining the Duke University faculty in 2010, he has developed and demonstrated expertise in conducting multidisciplinary research in antimicrobial resistance, particularly in the design and conduct of clinical trials in Staphylococcus aureus infections. He is the Principal Investigator of the ARLG DOTS trial testing the use of dalbavancin in complicated S. aureus bacteremia. He has led multiple clinical trial adjudication committees through the Duke Clinical Research Institute, including a study evaluating the performance of a next-generation sequencing test for the diagnosis of pneumonia in immune compromised patients. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he additionally took a lead role in COVID clinical trials.
