Friday Conference: Adoptive Cellular Therapy for Cancer: The Good, The Bad and the Future

Dr. Jonathan S. Serody is the Elizabeth Thomas Professor of Medicine, Microbiology, and Immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Chief of the Division of Hematology in the UNC School of Medicine. He also serves as Director of the Cellular Therapy Program. An internationally recognized physician-scientist, Dr. Serody’s research focuses on understanding and manipulating the immune response to cancer and hematologic malignancies through adoptive cellular therapy. His laboratory has made seminal contributions to the biology of graft-versus-host disease and the development of regulatory and innate immune cell–based therapies to treat it. He has also advanced the translation of CAR T cell and other adoptive immunotherapies for hematologic and solid tumors, integrating preclinical models with early-phase clinical trials. Dr. Serody has authored over 180 peer-reviewed publications and served on numerous NIH and NCI study sections and advisory boards for major cancer centers across the United States. A recipient of the Hyman Battle Distinguished Cancer Researcher Award, he continues to lead efforts to bring innovative immune-based therapies from the laboratory to the clinic to improve outcomes for patients with cancer.
