Title: Saliva-Based Diagnostic for Testing, Treating, and Tracking (T3) Malaria

Project Objectives: The main hypothesis of this study is that Plasmodium secretes antigens that induce host biomarkers that can be detected in saliva at limits lower than that for blood.

Aim 1: To determine the proteome profile and abundance of Plasmodium antigens in saliva of asymptomatic and symptomatic subjects and compare with levels in blood.

Aim 2: To assess levels of select host and Plasmodium antigens secreted in saliva of asymptomatic and symptomatic subjects and compare with levels in blood.

NIH Support:  Fogarty fellowship postdoctoral training award
