Title: “Cultural adaptation of an evidence-based psychosocial screening tool for adolescents living with HIV/AIDS in adolescents’ antiretroviral therapy program in Malawi”
Program Objectives:
Aim 1. Culturally adapt HEADSS screening tool to the Malawi setting-based on previously identified barriers. We will review our previous formative study findings and conduct semi-structured in-depth interviews (IDIs) with the key informants and the health care providers (HCPs) to assist with adaptation of HEADSS.
Aim 2. Identify the barriers and facilitators to the implementation of the adapted HEADSS among health care providers in Teen Club and ALHIV. We will conduct IDIs with the HCPs and focus group discussions (FGDs) with the ALHIV to understand their usability and acceptability of the adapted HEADSS screening tool.
Aim 3. Identify implementation strategies to address barriers presented in Aim 2. We will adopt the modified Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change (ERIC) protocol to select implementation strategies that can address the barriers identified in aim 1. We will also conduct a poll to vote on the most important and feasible strategies among a panel with expertise in cultural context and implementation science.
