Title: “Perceptions on preexposure prophylaxis in Vietnamese women in HIV-discordant relationships”

Program Objectives:
Given the stigma surrounding sexual practices in Vietnam, as well as the complexity of “responsibility” regarding HIV treatment, I will study perceptions of Vietnamese women on preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to understand what information empowerment they may need to prevent HIV acquisition. PrEP has been shown to reduce sexual HIV transmission by 70%, but current oral PrEP requires strict daily dosing to be therapeutically beneficial for women. I will be partnering with HMU’s HIV clinic and serving as a primary investigator in a study looking into the awareness and perceptions of married/engaged women in sero-discordant relationships on oral and injectable PrEP to anticipate future patient education and outreach.
