Title: Evaluation of the effect of Efavirenz on Levonorgestrel pharmacokinetics over 24 weeks among HIV-infected women using the Levonorgestrel contraceptive implant

Project Objectives:

Hypothesis: We hypothesize that the 24-week mean LNG concentration among EFV 400 mg users will be at least 33% higher than the 24-mean LNG concentration previously found among EFV 600 mg users who were using the LNG implant because of decreased EFV exposure and pharmacokinetic parameters.

Aim 1: To evaluate the effect of Efavirenz (EFV) on Levonorgestrel (LNG) concentrations among 22 HIV-infected women who are using the LNG contraceptive implant and taking EFV 400 mg daily over 24 weeks of drug co-administration.
