Talha Khan spent the summer in Munich at LMU German Hospital, gaining firsthand insight into Germany’s healthcare system while observing radiology practice and conducting cost‑effective research at one of Europe’s premier medical centers.
Independently, he found his mentor who was willing to sponsor his research experience at LMU German Hospital in Munich, Germany (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München), one of Europe’s leading medical centers.
During his time there, Khan sought to better understand the lifestyle of German physicians and the structure of the healthcare system, while also conducting cost-effective research. He spent time in the radiology department, observing imaging cases and procedures and learning how clinical decisions are made in practice.
“The German healthcare system is built on a multi-payer insurance model that ensures universal coverage. While healthcare is not entirely free, co-payments are capped relative to income, meaning patients contribute only what is affordable to them,” Khan said. “This design guarantees that everyone—including immigrants and lower-income individuals—has access to necessary medical care.”
