Hallie Stallings’ goal is to help everyone have access to a high-quality education. At UNC-Chapel Hill, the senior is using resources from her majors and experiences abroad to support that mission.

Stallings knew she would major in public policy just a few weeks into Patricia Sullivan’s “Global Policy Issues” class. The introductory course in the College of Arts and Sciences focuses on some of the most pressing issues facing global populations and explores possible policy responses.
“Professor Sullivan’s way of highlighting global problems with a focus on practical solutions was captivating,” said Stallings, who is from Chevy Chase, Maryland.
With the encouragement of assistant professor Shakirah Hudani, Stallings paired public policy with a second major in African, African American and diaspora studies, a field that she says is “interdisciplinary and allows me to combine my passions of policy, education and international development.”
Through her classes, Stallings learned about UNC Project-Malawi, a collaboration between the UNC School of Medicine’s Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases and the Malawi Ministry of Health to improve health through research, capacity building and clinical care.
