Joanna “Asia” Maselko, ScD, Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology, is working to improve preparation for future pandemics by examining the myriad psychosocial pathways through which the COVID-19 pandemic impacted mental health. In a recent article in BMC Public Health, they present findings on two less documented pathways: (a) COVID illness and death within one’s social network and (b) experiencing pandemic-related basic needs stressors, beyond financial difficulties, on the mental health of mothers and children in South Asia.
Maselko is a member of the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases. Maselko’s current research examines how the social context influences developmental risk trajectories over the life course.
