Run-For-Malawi.Registration is now open for this year’s “Run for Malawi” 5k scheduled for Saturday, April 26. This fundraiser saves the lives of children in one of the poorest nations in the world.

This year’s goal is to raise $50,000 to support critical work at Kamuzu Central Hospital’s pediatric ward, including the Nutritional Rehabilitation Unit, which treats children suffering from severe malnutrition. The funds will also be used to support the clinical lab and train pediatric residents.

“I invite you to join me and fellow coworkers at the 8th Annual Run for Malawi—an event that not only brings us together but also makes a huge impact on children’s healthcare in Malawi,” said Susan Pedersen, Clinical Director of the Institute’s Global Clinical Trials Unit.  “Please sign up early and help us spread the word!”

About Malawi Children’s Initiative

Malawi Children’s Initiative is a 501c3 established in 2017 by physicians Elizabeth Fitzgerald and her husband David Fitzgerald, to help build bridges between their friends and colleagues at home in the US and those in Malawi.   MCI focuses on improving the lives of Malawian children through investment in healthcare, education, and nutritional initiatives.  Since its inception MCI has sent over a million dollars in support to one of the poorest nations in the world. In just the last 8 years, MCI has built an elementary school building, built, staffed, and maintained a pediatric clinical lab at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) in Lilongwe, provided dozens of scholarships for Malawian learners from elementary school through post-graduate training and medical school, and contributed thousands of hours of nursing care support to the KCH Pediatric Department. While MCI provides nurses, laboratory staff, clinical officers, and nutritionists at the hospital, there are currently less than 10 local pediatricians in practice in the capital city of Lilongwe.
