Aug. 1, 2009 -- The Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases (IGHID) at UNC has released a progress report detailing its activities and accomplishments during its first two years.

IGHID was established in October 2007, and then UNC Chancellor James Moeser declared Carolina "a world power in global health." The new institute, he said, would "build on our faculty's historic strengths in medicine and public health so that Carolina research will be even more effective in improving and saving lives here and around the globe.”

The report covers IHGID's progress toward its missions of research, teaching, and service in three geographic focus areas: Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa and Asia (especially China). IV Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention in Cape Town, South Africa.
