The Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases is committed to sustainable programs that improve long-term health in the places where we work. Globally, there is a shortage of trained health care workers and very few specialists. In Malawi, for example, there are just two physicians for every 100,000 people. There are fewer than 10 obstetrician-gynecologists and only two oncologists in the entire country.
The IGHID has partnered with departments in the School of Medicine to establish two specialty residency training programs in Malawi for Malawians.
